Lake San Antonio Lake San Antonio has 12 trails covering over 26 miles. Ranging from beginner to advanced, these trails are an excellent opportunity to enjoy close-up, the wide variety of wildlife and scenery that is native to the lake. All trails are accessible to both hiking and mountain bikes. It is also known as one of the largest eagle winter habitats in Central California. Each year an Eagle Count is held in cooperation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Over 60 eagles, both Golden and Bald, have been spotted around the lake San Antonio Area. With the lake conducive to fish and wildlife, San Antonio is the perfect winter home.Lake San Antonio provides spectacular fishing opportunities. With a variety of fish, including Striped Bass, Bass (Large and Small Mouth), Catfish, Crappie, Carp, Red Ear, and Blue Gill, Lake San Antonio is the perfect choice for your next fishing adventure. When military training activities allow, Fort Hunter Liggett has 10 man-made ponds and reservoirs for fishing daily, including many weekdays, weekends and federal holidays, except Christmas day. Bass, bluegill, and catfish may be caught in Fort Hunter Liggett ponds and reservoirs. Minor fisherman may register when accompanied by an adult with photo identification.Lake San Antonio North Shore is one of few places in the state of California that provides shoreline camping. Bradley and Lockwood are a part of the prestigious South Monterey County Wine Country. The reputation of this wine-growing region dates back two hundred years to the first agricultural estate of wine grapes by the Franciscan friars at the Soledad Mission. It is just a short drive to Hunter Liggett Military Base. At the base you can get passes for hunting and fishing and woodcutting. Other amenities at the base include a swimming pool and a bowling alley. Also located with the base are the historic San Antonio Mission and the Hacienda Restaurant, which is open to the public. You will very likely find seashells and fossils in the area as well. During the spring you .ll see large patches of wildflowers everywhere you go. This beautiful area is abundant with natural wildlife. On a nice day you can take the scenic drive along Nacimiento/Ferguson Road to the ocean. This is a rural school, community center, and park in the area along with the infamous Lake San Antonio Resort.
