Casa de Caballos, “Stable of Fine Wines”
The best of both worlds! A licensed and bonded 5000 case winery and spectacular horse facilities in one! Situated high in the Santa Lucia Mountain Range over West Templeton is this beautiful family run winery on 33± acres. For the past 20 years, grape production and horse breeding have collectively created paradise here at Casa de Caballos. There are multiple barns, outbuildings, paths, and even an old outhouse!
Current bottle production is 1500 cases annually, most of which are sold to club members. The property sale will include the Casa de Caballos label, equipment, lab, location, and barrels. All you need is the desire to be a wine maker!
Casa de Caballos’ first commercial realease was the 1995 Fantasy White Riesling, a varietal that thrives on the 1,280 foot Templeton hillsides, just twelve miles from the coast. Templeton experiences
temperatures slightly cooler then the rest of the Paso Robles area, and possesses a chalky, clay soil to hold water. The Vineyard has a slightly longer growing season that produces an excellent Pinot Noir!
This property also has a very nice horse breeding facility with several stalls, pastures, and a sanded arena with a viewing platform. The main barn features 12”x16” stalls with feeder doors, two 14”x20” foaling stalls, custom tack shed with saddle racks, and wash rack fed by its own hot water heater. There are two additional barns on the property, with multiple paddocks and pastures. Casa de Caballos is not only an award winning winery, but an active Arabian breeding facility as well!
There are three homes located on the Casa de Caballos property. The main residence was built in 1962, and is built for entertaining! This 4 bedroom, 3 bath home boasts 2700± sq ft. of living space, Spanish tile flooring, and a large master suite with walk a walk in shower and tons of closet space! The home features chef’s kitchens, both inside and out! The outdoor kitchen includes a stove, refrigerator, sink and dishwasher, and comes ready to entertain with service ware for 60!
The back patio of the home also has a built in bbq and comes equipped with tables and chairs, just waiting for your next gathering! Located on a hill top, this home has magnificent 60-mile panoramic views of the Paso Robles and Templeton wine regions. The two car garage has been converted to additional storage space, and has an attached wine library showcasing the Casa de Caballos vintages.
The very cute and comfortable guest home is located by the winery. It features 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, and has 1200± sq. ft. of living space.
Nestled among Cabernet and Merlot vines, the third home is located on a separate 10 acre parcel. Built in 2004, this custom home features 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, and has 2400± sq ft. of living space, and a 3 car garage.
The winery and tasting room include everything you need for a successful business! There is an upstairs office with private access, lab with equipment, tasting room with merchandise waiting to be sold, and a barrel room perfect for entertaining as well as barrel storage. There is a hidden storage area off of the tasting room, as well as an ADA approved restroom. A 500-gallon reverse osmosis water tank feeds both the winery and outdoor kitchen of the main home.
Currently there are approximately six acres of vines planted at Casa de Caballos. Planted in the upper vineyard are:
1 acre of Pinot Noir
1 acre of White Riesling
¼ acre of Muscat
Planted in the lower vineyard, close to the guest home are:
1 ½ acres Cabernet
1 ½ acres Merlot
½ acre Viognier
Casa de Caballos features 15 acres of walnuts, as well as an orchard that is home to many varieties of fruit trees including apple, pear, cherry, apricot and nectarine!
